Q. What is the LFB RMA?

An organisation run by volunteer’s for the benefit of retired members of the London Fire Brigade in retirement.

Q. What are the aims and objectives of the LFB RMA?

To promote and safeguard in every way the interest of all LFB pensioners, their wives, husbands, widows, widowers and dependants.

Q. Who can join?

Membership of the Association shall be open to Retired Operational London Fire Fighters, their widows or widowers and other Retired Uniformed staff dealing with Fire & Emergency calls. Serving members who are in their last two years of service can join now.

Q. If I do join, how is the information I give to the LFB RMA protected?

Obviously we need to know your name, address and telephone number, but any other information that you give to the LFB RMA is protected by the Data Protection Act 1998.

Q. How much does it cost to join?

£10 per annum.

Q. What do I get for this?

i.
Entitlement to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is held in May, at Southwark Training Centre. After the AGM and at a cost of £10, or free if you are over 75. A reunion is  held following the AGM in a marquee in the drill yard. A buffet is included in the cost and a reasonably price bar is available.

ii.
Contact via a local Secretary.

iii.
We are in contact with Welfare Fund and The Firefighters Charity (old FSNBF), where we have representatives who are attached to the LFBRMA Committee.

iv.
We are also in contact with the Brigade Pension Office and the London Pension Fund Authority (LPFA).

v.
The LFB RMA continues to fight to improve your pension rights.

vi.
Your Branch Secretary will arrange hospital visits and parcels for members if required.

vii.
We inform the next of kin by an Aide Memoir who to contact following the death of a member.

viii.
We help with members funeral arrangements (if requested) and send flowers, or make a donation to a charity chosen by the family.

ix.
We keep in touch with Old Comrades via our LFB RMA magazine and Web Site.

x.
We have members on the Firefighters Memorial Charitable Trust.

xi.
Members are invited to attend the Royal British Legion Cenotaph March Past, and the International Firefighters Day of Remembrance, held at St Paul's Cathedral in September of each year. These services are held to remember all Firefighters who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the course of their duty.

xii.
We will inform members of any retirements and Branch Reunions if we are provided with that information.

Q. Are there any get-together's other than the AGM?

Local Secretaries arrange “get togethers”. Dates will differ within each area and you will be notified by your local Branch Secretary either by news letter, or when you join. An additional charge is usually made for the cost of the buffet at these functions.

In my area we meet on the third Monday of every month, except May and a buffet is provided. These occasions provide the chance to ‘swing the lamp’ and reminisce with old friends and colleagues in a convivial setting!
